Universal Orlando Announces Operational Changes to Volcano Bay

Universal Orlando Resort has a lot on their plate, and for good reason: in just a few short weeks, Universal Epic Universe will officially open its gates. When the new park opens on May 22, it will be the fourth park to join the Universal Orlando lineup, following Universal Studios Florida, Islands of Adventure, and Volcano Bay.

For guests looking to experience all four parks, including Volcano Bay, there is a major operational change you’ll want to take note of for your upcoming vacation.

Volcano Bay Moving to Seasonal Operations

Guests have been able to enjoy Volcano Bay year-round since the water park first opened in 2017. That will change as of this fall. Starting on October 26, 2025, Volcano Bay will move to a seasonal operational calendar and will be closed for the cooler weather months.

Volcano Bay will reopen on March 24, 2026 for the warm weather season.  So if you’re planning a Universal Orlando vacation and you want Volcano Bay included in your itinerary, catch it before it closes for the season this October or you’ll have to wait until next spring.

Universal Will Sunset Tapu Tapu Wearable Technology

That’s not the only major change coming to Volcano Bay. The Tapu Tapu bracelets will be discontinued as of October 1, 2025. The bracelets were introduced as wearable technology guests could use to acquire return times for most attractions in the park.

There’s no word yet on whether something will replace Tapu Tapu or if the virtual line system at Volcano Bay will disappear entirely. Be sure to follow along as we share more of the latest news from Universal Orlando Resort.
