The Ultimate Guide to Fall and Halloween at Disney World, 2024 Edition

Once the fireworks conclude on the Fourth of July, my mind turns to all things fall and Halloween. Specifically, I start to count down the days until the Halloween season begins at Disney World. Yes, it’s nearly 80 degrees as I type this and the dew point is in the mid-70’s. But I’m currently sitting in an air conditioned Starbucks, wearing a sweatshirt, sipping on an Iced Brown Sugar Oatmilk Shaken Espresso, which kind of tastes like fall. So let’s at least imagine it’s not oppressively humid outside and look forward to the sweet release of that crisp autumn air.

It may not feel like “fall” in Orlando as it does where I’m based in New England, but make no mistake: Halloween is a big deal in the City Beautiful. Disney World offers a family-friendly version of spooky season each year, with pumpkins lining Main Street, U.S.A. and frightfully fun after hours events taking up much of the August through October calendar. Let’s review what Halloween at Walt Disney World looks like, and what you can expect if you’re visiting the resort this fall.

Halloween at Disney World

Halloween at Disney World starts earlier than you might think, or want depending on how much you want to cling onto those final weeks of summer. As of late, the first signs of fall start to pop up around August 1 with pumpkins arriving around Main Street, U.S.A. in Magic Kingdom. But if we want to get technical, fall is already starting to creep into the parks with the first bits of Halloween-themed merchandise already available in gift shops.

Once Halloween is in full swing, guests can enjoy festive decorations, mostly concentrated in Magic Kingdom. But that doesn’t mean there aren’t things to see and do elsewhere (we’ll cover all of that shortly).

Halloween and fall happenings last from early August through the end of October. The switchover to Christmas is pretty quick (literally within a couple of days following Halloween), so if you want to celebrate fall at Disney World, make sure you do so prior to October 31.

Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party

The flagship event of the late summer and early fall season at Walt Disney World is Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party. This separate-ticket, after-hours event takes place on select evenings in Magic Kingdom. This year’s dates are as follows:

  • August – 9, 13, 16, 20, 23, 27 and 30
  • September – 2, 6, 8, 10, 13, 15, 17, 20, 22, 24, 26, 27 and 29
  • October – 1, 3, 4, 6, 8, 10, 11, 14, 15, 17, 18, 20, 21, 24, 25, 27, 29 and 31

For each event, the party lasts from 7:00 PM until 12:00 AM. Ticket holders are able to enter Magic Kingdom as early as 4:00 PM on the date of their party, which gives you eight hours of park access (five of which are exclusive to party ticket holders).  The price for a ticket to Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party ranges from $119 to $199 per guest, depending on the date (the closer you get to Halloween, the more expensive the tickets become).

What’s included with your ticket? There are two main ‘buckets’ of attendee perks I consider the true benefits of the Halloween Party: lower crowds and exclusive Halloween-themed entertainment.

The lower crowds gives you the opportunity to ride popular Magic Kingdom rides with lower standby wait times than what you see on a typical park day. Most (not all!) of the major rides in Magic Kingdom will be available during Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, with some rides even having party-exclusive Halloween layovers (in the past they’ve offered Space Mountain with the lights off, Pirates of the Caribbean with live performers, etc.).

For 2024, it was announced that Magic Kingdom’s newest E-ticket rides — Tiana’s Bayou Adventure and TRON Lightcycle/Run — will be available for attendees with standby queues during the party. Here are the list of rides available during Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party:

Adventureland

  • Pirates of the Caribbean
  • The Magic Carpets of Aladdin
  • Swiss Family Treehouse

Frontierland

  • Tiana’s Bayou Adventure (standby line offered)
  • Big Thunder Mountain Railroad
  • Country Bear Jamboree

  • “It’s a small world”
  • Peter Pan’s Flight
  • The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh
  • Mad Tea Party

Storybook Circus

  • Dumbo the Flying Elephant
  • The Barnstormer

Tomorrowland

  • Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin
  • Astro Orbiter
  • Monsters Inc. Laugh Floor
  • Space Mountain
  • Tomorrowland Speedway
  • Tomorrowland Transit Authority People Mover
  • TRON Lightcycle / Run (standby line offered)

The other big draw to Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party is the entertainment! Each party includes Mickey’s Boo-To-You Halloween Parade, Disney’s Not-So-Spooky Spectacular, and Hocus Pocus Villain Spectacular (side note…Disney really goes all-out with the hyphenated names and phrases for this after hours event. I’m tired of reaching my pinky finger across the keyboard to hit the dash mark key).

And, of course, there’s Trick-or-Treating available throughout the park! Guests of all ages are encouraged to dress up in costumes and collect candy from Cast Members.

Other Ways to Enjoy Fall at Disney World

Outside of Magic Kingdom, there are several ways to embrace all things fall. Of course, there’s the flagship EPCOT International Food and Wine Festival, taking place this year from August 29 through November 23. The festival is home to numerous food booths, or Global Marketplaces, that sell small bites and sips. The festival is also home to the Eat to the Beat Concert Series.

Japan Pavilion

This year’s Food and Wine Festival will feature two new booths, Autumn Blaze and Harvest Table. These will focus on fall-forward flavors, so if you want to truly embrace the season, make sure to check these two booths out (though all of the booths will offer savory dishes that will scratch that fall itch).

Outside of the theme parks, guests can stop by The Campsites at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort for some festive fall decorations. Closer to Halloween, the campsites come alive with festive decor supplied by the campers themselves! Over time this has become a beloved Halloween tradition at Walt Disney World that anyone can enjoy without a theme park ticket.
