Chances are high you’ll be dealing with summer weather in Disney World. This is true even if you aren’t traveling in the summer months, as hot weather is common in Disney World throughout the year. No matter what time of year you are traveling to Disney World, preparing for hot temperatures is a must.
This article breaks down the steps you need to take before and during your Disney World vacation to ensure everyone is comfortable despite the high temperatures and relentless humidity. This updated guide for staying cool and comfortable in Disney World will help you prepare and pack for your upcoming vacation!
Dress For Summer Weather
One of the most important factors in determining how comfortable you’ll be in the summer months is how you dress in the theme parks. While you don’t necessarily have to sacrifice style, it does tend to take a back seat to comfort when deciding what to pack and wear in the summer months.
The key is to bring light, breathable clothes to the parks. When it’s hot outside, my go-to inspiration is athleisure. Think bike shorts and a light-colored t-shirt or tank top. Wear your most comfortable sneakers, or buy a new pair ahead of time so you can break them in before your trip.

Stay Hydrated
Drinking plenty of water during your Disney World vacation is crucial year-round, but it’s especially important during the summer. Not only does it keep you cool, but it prevents heat exhaustion. Keep everyone in your family happy and healthy by taking frequent water breaks. Quick service dining locations can give you free cups of ice water, or you can scope out bottle refill stations around the parks.

Take Breaks From The Sun and Heat
Sunscreen is an absolute must when visiting Disney World in the summer months. Apply and reapply liberally. Remember to pack sunscreen in your luggage and/or carry on as resorts tend to upcharge (they want you to forget to pack it!).
You’ll also want to make sure you’re taking frequent breaks from the sun and heat by finding indoor locations to rest and recharge. I personally like to duck into as many gift stores as possible as I make my way from point A to point B. You can also plan out your dining by finding indoor restaurants, especially for lunch when the sun is at its peak.

Take Advantage Of Your Hotel Pool
Another way to conquer summer weather in Disney World is to take longer midday breaks. Head back to your hotel room to swim in the pool, take naps and showers in your room, etc. Plus, you’ll be heading out of the parks when the wait times are typically at their peak.
Using this strategy, I would plan on being at the park early in the morning for rope drop. Then, when the sun and temperatures peak (around or just after lunch), head back to the hotel for some rest and relaxation. Then, arrive back at the parks around sunset fully re-charged and ready for an evening of rides.

Be Prepared For Rain
Hot temperatures aside, one of the most common signs of summer weather in Disney World is rain. During the summer months, heavy rain is a near-daily occurrence with downpours, thunder, and lightning most commonly popping up mid-afternoon.
It can rain anytime of year at Disney World, but the summer months are more of a “sure bet.” Bring ponchos (buy them ahead of time; they’re upcharged at Disney World!), stroller covers, and an extra pair of socks in your park bag. If you have room, you can throw in an umbrella, too.
