Details and Timeline Revealed For ‘Cars’ Expansion of Frontierland at Magic Kingdom
Howdy, partners! We have a big update today coming out of Frontierland in Magic Kingdom, which will have an entire new appearance in the coming years. It was previously announced that an expansion to Frontierland inspired by the Pixar Cars franchise was on its way, and we have new details about this massive project.

This latest update includes the reveal of the new section’s name along with key details about some permanent and temporary ride closures taking place to make way for this ambitious project.
Piston Peak National Park Coming to Frontierland at Magic Kingdom
Frontierland will soon have a whole new area called Piston Peak National Park, inspired by the popular Cars franchise. Disney just released some new art showcasing this upcoming section of Frontierland:

Inspired by the Rocky Mountains, Piston Peak National Park is the backdrop for the land’s new “off-road rally race” attraction.

Closing Dates Announced For Adjacent Magic Kingdom Attractions
In order to make room for Piston Peak National Park, there will be a few notable permanent attraction closures. Disney previously shared that the Liberty Belle, Tom Sawyer Island, and the Rivers of America will close — and now we have a date.

The last day guests can experience these attractions will be on July 6. As of July 7, the area will no longer be accessible as work is set to begin on Piston Peak National Park.

There will be another temporary closure coming this July. As you may have heard, there is another major expansion coming to Magic Kingdom — the largest in the park’s history — a Disney villains-inspired land.

To facilitate the construction of this land, as well as the Frontierland expansion, some attractions have closed temporarily, including Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, which is currently closed through the duration of 2025 and will reopen sometime in 2026.

Theme park reporter Scott Gustin announced today that the full-circle route of the Walt Disney World Railroad will pause at the end of the day on July 6. As of July 7, the railroad will only travel between Main Street, U.S.A. and Fantasyland in “shuttle mode.” According to Gustin, Disney World will rotate some of the benches on the train to face backwards while the train operates back and forth.

The full-circle route will reopen once the villains-inspired land is complete. An opening timeline for that land has not been announced at this time.
