Disney Theme Park and Cruise Line News For the Week of June 23, 2025
Greetings! We’re back with another weekly update from the Disney theme parks and Disney Cruise Line. I myself am back from a whirlwind 48 hours at Walt Disney World…watch this space for some new content from that visit!

This week features news stories from Walt Disney World, Disneyland Resort, AND Disney Cruise Line! No matter where your Disney travels take you in the second half of 2025, there is plenty to plan around and take note of.
Multiple Temporary Ride Closures Announced at Walt Disney World
There are some new temporary ride closures that were announced this week at Walt Disney World. You’ll want to pencil these dates in if you have an upcoming trip this summer. Voyage of the Little Mermaid will close starting on July 21 and reopen on July 26.

Spaceship Earth will also close temporarily for planned refurbishment starting on August 25. The attraction will reopen later in 2025.

Finally, we learned that Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin will begin its previously announced lengthy closure on August 4, meaning the last day you have to experience the ride in its current version will be August 3.

Buzz Lightyear’s closure will include upgrades to the ride’s blasters, vehicles, and show scenes. The ride will reopen sometime in 2026.

Finally, a quick update that includes some good reopening news — Astro Orbiter reopened this week at Magic Kingdom after its 5-month closure.

Monorail Lighting Upgrade Takes Place at Walt Disney World
The next time you’re at Walt Disney World in the evening, look up! You just might notice a subtle but cool change to the Monorails. This week, Walt Disney World continued to upgrade the exterior lighting to the Monorails with logos along the lower portion of the cars that glow in the dark.

DeVil’s Details Revealed Ahead of Disney Destiny’s Maiden Voyage
Work continues on the Disney Destiny, the next vessel to join the Disney Cruise Line fleet! Ahead of its maiden voyage this November, we are learning more about De Vil’s, the onboard piano bar inspired by the classic Disney villain, Cruella de Vil.

As guests make their way through the Grand Hall, they will spot a marquee that says “De Vil’s” with a sign designed to look like piano keys (an apt design for a piano bar!). The entryway floor will feature a large mosaic displaying “How Marvelous,” Cruella’s catch phrase, surrounded by paw prints.

The lounge itself will pay homage to Cruella’s fashion legacy and feature her signature color palate: black and white with splashes of red. The carpet’s hand-drawn-inspired design pays homage to Ken Anderson, the artist who oversaw the stylized designs of the characters in Disney Animation’s “One Hundred and One Dalmatians.” The piano, the focal point of the lounge, will be spotted just like a dalmatian.

De Vil’s will be serving up “trendy martinis, chic cocktails, and glamorous wines and bubblies.”
