What’s Coming to Walt Disney World in August

It may feel as though summer just started, but when it comes to Walt Disney World, it is already time to move right along into all things fall and Halloween! August is when the Halloween season officially kicks off at Walt Disney World, and this year is no exception.

Fall-related festivities are the theme for this roundup of the biggest events to happen in Walt Disney World over the next month, so if you’re heading to the parks in the coming weeks, keep the following items in mind. As always, we’re covering things in chronological order.

Fall and Halloween Decorations Arrive in Magic Kingdom

As I said, fall is right around the corner at Walt Disney World. In fact, by the time this article goes live, the first few pieces of decor may have already appeared on Main Street, U.S.A. The first pumpkin sighting in 2023 was on July 31, but expect the bulk of decor to arrive after August 1.

The pumpkins and other fall decor will stick around until Halloween, and then it’s a quick switchover to Christmas. If you’re a fan of fall, be sure to check out the decorations in Magic Kingdom over the next few months.

Major Announcements For Walt Disney World and Beyond

I’m breaking from tradition and including an event that technically is not happening in Walt Disney World but will have an important impact on the parks nonetheless. I’m talking, of course, about D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event. The three-day expo takes place at the Anaheim Convention Center from August 9 through 11.

D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event brings us the year’s largest announcements from the Walt Disney Company, which will have a drastic impact on the future of Walt Disney World, the other Disney parks worldwide, and Disney Cruise Line. You’ll want to tune in on Saturday, August 10, at 7:00 p.m. PST for Horizons: Disney Experiences Showcase. There’s usually a livestream you can catch!

Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party Begins

Perhaps the most highly-anticipated event that starts each August is Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party. That’s right, starting August 9, Magic Kingdom will transform into a family-friendly spooktacular environment that will look like late October despite still feeling very much like summer in Orlando.

Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party takes place on select evenings from August 9 through October 31. Tickets are on sale now for the remaining dates!

EPCOT Food and Wine Festival Begins

Another big arrival at Walt Disney World this August is the EPCOT International Food and Wine Festival. The festival is starting noticeably later this year than it has recently, returning to a more “diet EPCOT” model for the festival.

Rather than starting in early to mid-July as it has in the past few years, the Food and Wine Festival kicks off on August 29 and runs daily through November 23. The festival includes the Eat to the Beat Concert Series, with dining packages available for booking.
