Magic Kingdom is the flagship park in Walt Disney World. Opening on October 1st, 1971, Magic Kingdom has welcomed guests from around the world for over fifty years. The park was modeled after Disneyland Park in Anaheim, California, with the one major distinction being, as Walt Disney himself put it, “the blessing of size.”

When people think about Disney World, most think about Magic Kingdom, with the iconic Cinderella Castle as its focal point. As guests enter the park, they walk “right down the middle of Main Street, U.S.A.,” which was inspired by Walt’s hometown of Marceline, Missouri. Magic Kingdom contains five additional themed ‘lands’: Adventureland, Frontierland, Fantasyland, Liberty Square, and Tomorrowland. Each land has its own unique story to tell, with rides, restaurants, and shops.

What is there to do in Magic Kingdom?

There are more attractions in Magic Kingdom than any other park in Walt Disney World. From thrill rides like Space Mountain and Big Thunder Mountain Railroad to classic dark rides like Pirates of the Caribbean and Haunted Mansion, you may find that you need a couple of days in your trip plan to get everything done in this park alone.

For foodies, Magic Kingdom is home to several classic restaurants that repeat visitors have likely frequented over the years. Be Our Guest Restaurant brings you into the world of Beauty and the Beast, while Cinderella’s Royal Table lets guests dine inside Cinderella Castle along with a host of Disney princesses. Magic Kingdom is also where you’ll find many classic Disney World snacks, from Dole Whip to churros.

Snacks in Magic Kingdom

When you think of classic Disney World snacks – Dole Whip, Mickey Ice Cream Bars, Turkey Legs, Churros, etc. – you can find them in Magic Kingdom. Head to Adventureland for a refreshing Dole Whip or Dole Whip Float at Aloha Isle or Sunshine Tree Terrace. While you’re there, be sure to check what the seasonal spring roll flavor is at the Spring Roll Cart. Head over to Liberty Square for the fan-favorite Nutella Waffle. And no day in the park is complete without popcorn or ice cream, which you can find throughout the park (though nothing beats an ice cream cone from Plaza Ice Cream Parlor on Main Street, U.S.A.).

Halloweentime at Magic Kingdom

August through October

Fall is one of the most popular times of the year at Magic Kingdom, thanks to the beloved after-hours event Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party. Taking place on select nights from August through October, the party includes Halloween-themed character meet-and-greets, trick-or-treat candy trails, the fireworks show Disney’s Not-So-Spooky Spectacular, Mickey’s Boo-To-You Halloween Parade, and more. Aside from the after-hours event, Magic Kingdom has plenty to see and do during the daytime as well come fall. From festive pumpkin decorations to seasonal treats, Magic Kingdom takes on a whole new persona this time of year.

The holiday season at Magic Kingdom

November and December

Every November and December, Magic Kingdom fully embraces the spirit of the holiday season with festive decorations, limited-time treats, and the fan-favorite after-hours event Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party. The park’s larger-than-life Christmas tree usually first appears in early November and stays around through the first week of January (typically after the Walt Disney World Marathon). The Christmas party takes place on select nights and requires separate admission to attend.
